Freestyle

Freestyle is a tool for creating 3D models that can be used in computer games, movies, posters and so on.

Workflow

Freestyle is designed to emphasize the modeling, not the modeler. The beautifully elegant user interface is organized within a single window, specifically designed to promote "flow" so that you have an uninterrupted creative experience.

Thanks to a highly context sensitive interface, you will always be using an interface that is tailored to the task at hand. Freestyle consolidates tasks, data and actions in the inspector panel, that in turn targets the rest of the interface at the same task.

The inspector panel ensures you never have to hunt through multiple panels and other clutter, leaving you with an interface that's powerful, intuitive and quick to work with.

Polygonal modeling

A few powerful, intelligent tools are much better than a separate command or option for every conceivable function. With Freestyle the same versatile tools can work on vertices, edges and polygons alike.

Workarounds are not necessary. In Freestyle you can create polygons with any number of edges, as well as create objects with holes.

Subdivision surfaces

Subdivision surfaces offer a smooth, high polygon shape, and are easily applied on any polygonal mesh by simply dragging a slider in the inspector panel. All the polygonal tools still work on subdivision surfaces, and updates are shown real time on the subdivided shape. Edges can be creased to keep them sharp at all subdivision levels, with correct smooth shading.

You never need to worry about your topology not giving you a well-defined subdivision surface. Thanks to the clever data structures used it is impossible to end up with polygons with holes, edges with three polygons etc.

Voxel sculpting

Voxel sculpting allows you to sculpt a shape without any topological constraints. This is because it is not based on a polygon surface but on volume building and filling.

Creating a new shape is as simple as painting strokes on the 3D object.

Rich gizmos

Modeling is performed directly in the 3D viewport using visual gizmos. Gizmos gives a very hands on feel to distances and scales, while letting you work quickly without having to learn a lot of terminology.

No more guessing what you're really scaling or rotating around using some gizmo based on averages, Freestyle actually shows a gizmo for each pivot point.

Tool settings

Freestyle offers precise numerical control of the tools using the tool settings panel. Most tools also has advanced settings that you can access here when you need that extra control.

High performance

Thanks to advanced data structures and algorithms Freestyle can very rapidly handle geometric and topological changes to dense meshes. In fact working on a single model with 100,000 polygons subdivided twice to about 1.6 million subdivision polygons is well within Freestyles capabilities!

Active development

But this list is just the beginning! Freestyle quickly grows new features since it's a young product that has no old baggage. There's a comprehensive unit test suite behind the product that allows regular releases without long QA cycles.

... And you only have to pay once for all 1.x versions of Freestyle!
